Activities and sights

Cragg House Farm is the ideal place to stay if you enjoy walking; from all day walks over Red Pike, Fleetwith Pike and the famous Haystacks (the final resting place of Wainwright) to more gentle walks around Buttermere and Crummock Water. All without starting your car in the morning.

Boats can be hired from Wood House (2 minutes from Cragg House Farm) for use on Crummock Water.

Fishing is available on Buttermere, Crummock and Loweswater, also on the privately owned fisheries at Seathwaite (Borrowdale), Lorton and Watendlath Tarn.

Bikes can be hired from Keswick and Seatoller (Borrowdale) and there are miles of off-road cyclepaths in Whinlatter Forest (a 15 - 20 minute drive).

Horse riding is available on the local fells within a short drive.

Honister Slate Mine (15 minutes) provides an interesting tour of a historical slate mine and also has a 'Via Ferrata' - a high level walkway where you can trace the precarious steps the miners used to take for a shortcut home!

Even just driving in the local area can be inspirational with amazing views from Whinlatter, Newlands and Honister passes.
